|As we were unable to raise money through concerts last year we decided to do a virtual walk around Great Britain from Capital to Capital and raise money through sponsorship for Sebastian’s Action Trust. They do amazing work supporting families of seriously ill children, walking alongside them from diagnosis, through treatment and beyond. They provide emotional, practical and social support to more than 600 families. Please help us to help them. It would be great to see as many people as possible walking alongside us. No need to be a member.
Starting from our rehearsal venue, Carnival Hall in Basingstoke we travel to London, a distance of approximately 51 miles. We hope to visit a choir in the city before travelling north to Edinburgh, 414 miles. After visiting a Scottish choir, we continue our journey to Wales, a slightly shorter distance of 393 miles. There we hope to meet up with a Welsh choir in Cardiff. The last leg of our journey back to Carnival Hall is 114 miles. In total we will collectively walk 972 miles.
Not a walker or prefer ‘Steps’? - That is fine. 2000 steps equates to 1 mile
Not a ‘Stepper’? Even walking round the house and garden can add up. Don’t forget walks to the post box or local shops. All small distances but they all count. Got a bike? Pedal a few miles for us. Or if you are not able to join the walk, perhaps you could sponsor us.
Walkers, we will update our distances as we go. You can send you miles in to email@example.com. Please make sure this is by 9pm on Thursdays and Sundays each week as this is when we will be reporting on the miles covered so far.
We have the month of March to complete the walk.
We are asking for a small registration fee of £2 per individual or £5 per family. Please go to our registration page if you would like to walk with us (Don't worry that it looks like you are buying tickets! There is no need to print them) If you can get some sponsorship too, that would be great.
Unable to join the walk but would like to support? Go to our Donations page if you would like to make a donation. We have a 'pot' specially for the walk. There is the facility to gift aid your donation too if you are able. Donations can also be made via our Just Giving page.
At the end of every week we will let everyone know how we are doing and where we are on our route, so keep checking back here.
Take some photos on your journeys and you can upload them on World Walking or send them to me, firstname.lastname@example.org and I can upload them for you. We have a gallery here on our own website. Take a look.
Enjoy the walk.
